Our contest deadline has been extended!

All entries must be postmarked--not received--by February 1, 2008.

Eligibility

  • All work must be the author’s original work. 
  • The author cannot have signed a publishing contract for novel-length romantic fiction (regardless of publisher) within five years of the contest deadline (between February 1, 2003 and February 1, 2008).
  • Previous winners and finalists may not re-enter the same manuscript, even in edited format. They may, however, enter another manuscript.
  • Entrants may enter as many manuscripts as they wish, however, each manuscript may only be entered in one category.
  • Chicago-North RWA® members are ineligible
  • Failure to comply with any of the rules may disqualify the entry resulting in a forfeit of the entry fee.

What to Submit

1.      Four (4) copies of up to the first 25 double-spaced pages of a manuscript bound by individual paper clips. The entries must adhere to the following format:

·        Standard recommended manuscript format:

o       8-1/2" x 11" paper (or A4)

o       1" margins

o        Courier New 12 pt

o        25 lines per page

·         Header to be on each page including page one:

o        Title (upper left)

o        Contest category (upper left)

o        Page number (upper right)

·        Your name must not appear on the manuscript or your entry will be disqualified and entry fee forfeited.

2.      A separate entry form with signed waiver for each submission.  If the entry has more than one author, each author must complete an entry form and sign the waiver.

3.      Non-refundable entry fee of $25.00 for RWA members, $30 for non-RWA members. Check or money order in US funds only, payable to Chicago-North RWA.  No cash please.

4.      A self-addressed, stamped envelope for return of your judged manuscripts and score sheets.

·        Your submission will not be returned if you do not include the SASE.

·        The envelope must be stamped with sufficient postage for the return of the entry, NOT a postage meter sticker. The post office requires stamps.

·        Use a sturdy, non-rip envelope (we suggest the Tyvek envelopes available free from the USPS for Priority Mail). 

·        Contestants from outside the United States please include $6.00 in IRCs or add $6 to your entry fee (US Funds) in lieu of stamps.

·        Any entries requiring a signature upon receipt WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.  If you're sending it Express Mail, be sure to check the area that allows for delivery without a signature.

5.      You may send an optional self-addressed, stamped postcard to confirm receipt of your contest entry, or ask that we email you to confirm receipt of your entry.

6.   No entries will be accepted before December 10, 2007, or after February 1, 2008. 

 

 

Miscellaneous

  • The contest coordinators reserve the right to limit the contest to first 120 entries.
  • In a single category, if less than ten entries are received, the category will be canceled and authors will be contacted and given the opportunity to be entered in another category.
